Research Interests
Cardiology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Genetics and Genomics

Bilal Hussain is a graduate of Windsor University School of Medicine in St. Kitts and Nevis, and a holder of an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology from the University of Toronto. Bilal’s academic and professional journey has been shaped by a deep curiosity about human biology, disease mechanisms, and the translation of research into meaningful clinical outcomes.

Bilal had the privilege of working in Dr. Scott Heximer's lab at the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, where he was involved in projects exploring the role of cardiac fibroblasts during myocardial infarction and the relationship between autophagy and S-palmitoylation. These experiences introduced him to the complexities of molecular cardiology and ignited a deeper appreciation for how basic science can inform and improve clinical practice.

Further expanding his research experience, Bilal worked as a research assistant at Clinical Trial Network in Houston, Texas, where he contributed to several clinical trials, including one focused on the lipid-lowering agent Evolocumab (Repatha®). This exposure to clinical trials strengthened his understanding of evidence-based medicine and the regulatory and logistical challenges of translating lab findings into therapeutic interventions.

The Translational Research Master’s Program represents an ideal next step for Bilal—a unique opportunity to integrate his academic background, clinical training, and research experience. Bilal is eager to deepen his understanding of translational methodologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ethical, economic, and social implications of biomedical innovation. Most importantly, he is excited to grow as a researcher committed to making a meaningful impact on patient care.
