Why join the TRP?

If you want to be challenged, if you want to think differently, if you want to have impact. Join us.

At the Translational Research Program (TRP), you will build on your own experiences and on expertise across disciplines to develop health innovations.

You’ll collaborate with people from varied backgrounds who are passionate about improving health. You’ll learn from peers and mentors in industry and healthcare through feedback and support rather than lectures and exams.

Designed to be flexible, an Individual Development Plan will help you identify opportunities to build the skills that facilitate your personal and professional goals throughout the two-year graduate program.

The customizable coursework options and classes are rallying points for discussions and peer learning, while hands-on projects and co-curricular activities allow you to tackle real-world challenges while building your networks and skills.

What you will take away from this program

We teach in an unconventional way - see more in how you will learn.

What you will get out the program includes:

  • Insight into the vast array of career paths in, and part of, healthcare.
  • Skills that will help you innovate in your workplace, from advanced interpersonal and collaboration skills to adaptability, creative problem-solving and leadership. Skills you can apply instantly and that will enhance all areas of your personal and professional life.
  • Knowledge to help you navigate bringing change in healthcare in areas such as policy, finance and intellectual property.
  • A mindset that puts patients at the center of what you do, challenges your assumptions and enables you to see issues from many perspectives.
  • The opportunity to complete a research project that can be part of your work (or personal interests), completed with guidance and support from TRP peers, instructors, mentors and collaborators. Use your work as your learning framework.
  • The ability to creatively problem solve in an adaptable way in an ambiguous environment. You will be able to identify person-centric and ingenuity gaps, scope problems, verify assumptions, test and iterate on real-world projects to translate discoveries into action.
  • A vast network of people you may not normally interact with from clinicians to advocates, financiers and computer scientists. Access the people who can help you innovate.

"I can confidently say that it is a worthwhile journey that involves a lot of professional and personal refinement. I entered the program out of my undergraduate degree and was quickly shocked by how different the academic experience is within the TRP. I’m currently studying for the MCAT, but I’m also transitioning into a role with Ontario Health as a renal clinical program specialist."
