International application deadline: Friday, May 8, 2026 11:59 PM EST
We accept a certain number of students from outside Canada each year.
If you are not a Canadian Citizen and do not hold Canadian permanent resident (PR) status at the time of application or registration, there are a few extra things we need from you to be considered for the TRP.
This is in addition to the basic supporting documents which are outlined on How to submit your application to the TRP.
If you have been educated at a non-Canadian institution, your educational background will be assessed for equivalency with a University of Toronto degree. See more on the SGS website.
We encourage you to apply early to ensure sufficient time for review and securing a study permit (student visa).
If your transcript or degree is not in English, you must arrange to have the document translated by an authorized translation service, embassy, or consulate.
If you received your previous degree from a university where English is NOT the language of instruction, you must complete a recognized English Language Proficiency Test (within the last two years) before applying to the TRP.
Testing results must be sent directly to the TRP office.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test code 0982 will forward your results to the U of T School of Graduate Studies.
Official English Language proficiency test results (IELTS or TOEFL) must be sent to the University of Toronto by the testing institution.
See the list of recognized tests and score requirements.
If you are an international applicant and you are granted admission, you must ensure you hold a valid Student Authorization from Citizenship and Immigration Canada in order to study in Canada.
In some cases, a Temporary Resident Visa is required before entering Canada. Under no circumstances should you leave for Canada until confirmation of acceptance of admission to the University of Toronto is received and you hold a valid entry visa and student authorization. You should contact the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate as soon as you receive an offer of admission.
