Ally Suarez

BSc

I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a Health Research Specialization at the University of Waterloo. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I was involved in several research labs inside and outside of the university wherein I was able to develop a passion in health and tech research, particularly in the areas of human-computer interaction, social determinants, mental health, global health, and public health.

I was able to work with several interdisciplinary groups of researchers throughout my academic career. Through this, I was given the chance to view problems and solutions in different perspectives, allowing me to develop an open-mindset, to learn how those from such disciplines see and tackle problems, and to share my own viewpoints that are different from theirs. I have also gained some industry experience through working for a few health tech start-ups as a product management intern, which allowed me to develop and apply my critical thinking and problem solving skills into real life products and programs.

In my free time, I enjoy photography, reading, attending concerts, and (very recently) running!

I am looking forward to the challenges that I will face from the Translational Research Program and I hope to further expand my perspectives in the innovation of health, medicine, and care through my peers, instructors, and everyone I will have an opportunity to work with.
