Winky Yau (She/Her)
Winky is a graduate from the University of Waterloo where she completed her Honours Bachelor of Science in Health Studies. During her undergraduate studies, she found growing interests in human physiology, pharmacology and health promotion. She further explored these passions while working as a research assistant on a longitudinal study focusing on improving health behaviours in youth, including physical activity, nutrition, substance use, and mental health, which further deepened her future career interests in public health and healthcare accessibility.
Since graduating, Winky has been working as Manager, Medical Affairs at Lung Cancer Canada, the only national charity focused exclusively on supporting Canadians impacted by lung cancer. Her role has given her a first-hand view of the many barriers and systemic issues within cancer care across the country, from clinical trial development and disparities in treatment access across provinces, to the real-life impact these challenges have on patients and their families. She has been a dedicated advocate for patients, leading industry relations, policy initiatives, and medical and research activities for the organization.
In her free time, Winky enjoys spending time with friends and family, trying new cafes and restaurants around the city, and drawing and painting landscapes.
