Dr. Edyta Marcon is a scientist, educator, and innovator. She has a background in genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. She began her academic journey at York University in Toronto, Canada, where she earned both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees.
Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Marcon joined the University of Toronto as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where she further developed her expertise in chromatin biology and high-throughput techniques. She remained at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research as a senior research associate, working on the mechanisms of gene expression and its implications for human health and disease.
Recognizing the critical gap between research and clinical implementation, Dr. Marcon has decided to enter the Translational Research Program to learn how to translate research findings to better patient outcomes. After completing the program, Dr. Marcon continued to do research while at the same time, teaching part time at TRP as an instructor for the Capstone Course, where she fostered a fast-paced and intellectually challenging environment, encouraging students to set ambitious yet achievable goals.
Dr. Marcon transitioned to a full-time faculty position in January 2024. She continues to facilitate student learning in the capstone course as well as a first-year Foundation course and a few modules. She is known for her tough but fair teaching style, inspiring students to embrace uncertainty, thinking creatively, and exploring unconventional approaches to problem-solving. Her ultimate mission is to empower students to think differently, to develop impactful healthcare solutions that improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Marcon thrives in dynamic settings where she can explore new ideas, tackle complex challenges, and collaborate with diverse teams. Passionate about teaching and mentorship, she leverages her scientific expertise and real-world experience to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders, ensuring that groundbreaking research translates into meaningful advancements in patient care.
Beyond academia, Dr. Marcon is an advocate for lifelong learning and a champion for innovative approaches to healthcare that put patients at the center of discovery.
