October 2021 | TRP

In September 2021, we held our Fall orientation, complete with hands-on activities in an engaging virtual format. Throughout the sessions, our new batch of translational researchers had a chance to engage with the faculty, the TPR community, and their peers. Providing a balance of both academic and social integration, our online orientation was designed to help familiarize students with the program.

We spoke to a few students about orientation week to better understand how helpful these virtual events were in giving them the best possible start to their TRP experience. This fireside chat features Dominique Pilon, a nurse with a vision joining the TRP virtually from Ottawa.

She aspires to bring a positive change to healthcare, thereby improving the quality of care that patients receive. What ultimately made her choose the TRP was the “aha” moment when she realized that the change she wants to channel is the change that the program advocates for. “I want to be able to translate the knowledge and skills that I gain from the TRP to put my patient-centric ideas into implementation and having attended the orientation, I am confident of being able to do just that.”

The one thing that stood out for Dominique was the importance the program puts on the person, how people-centric it is, “I felt that the individual is very important for the TRP. They are not trying to change the individual, instead, they give us the choice to thrive in our way. We were told we will get out of this what we put in and throughout the whole orientation, that resonated with me.”

Check out this fireside chat to learn more about Dominique, her aspirations, why she chose the TRP, and how she hopes to shift the paradigm of healthcare improving the quality of care patients receive.
