Katie is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University having completed a Bachelor of Social Work with minors in Indigenous Studies and Youth and Children’s Studies. She is a Registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW, who is currently working as a Behaviour Therapist. In this role, Katie works with her clients to ensure they get the support and techniques they need and deserve to maximize their communication skills and to reach their individualized goals. She is passionate about improving access to healthcare and health outcomes for marginalized communities, especially those living with disabilities. Katie also has thirteen years of child development and respite care experience for children with disabilities, and seniors with dementia and spinal cord injuries. Within the TRP, she is currently collaborating on a Capstone project to help empower autistic adults to communicate their mental health needs to care professionals. Through her personal, professional, and academic experiences, she continues to be energized and motivated to build her connections to marginalized communities and to further her career in a helping profession. Outside of her research, she enjoys running, reading, and spending time outdoors.
