Admission requirements


Four-year BA or BSc, graduate degree, or MD Degree from a recognized university


Academic credentials and background preparation appropriate to the field of study


A minus (A-) average in three of the last four years of study (including the final year)


Significant capacity for or evidence of:

  • Problem-solving 
  • Exceptional achievement 
  • Research curiosity 
  • Passion for improving the health of people and communities 
  • A depth of professional experiences

Supporting documents

Letter of intent (LOI)

Approx. 500 words 

A strong LOI should address the following points: 

    • Your expertise and background 
    • What makes you interested in the program 
    • What you would like to get out of the program 
    • An example of a translational problem or project that requires development, and what steps it might take to implement it 


Please ensure all details are up to date 
    • There is no set template for your CV 
    • Please include details of your professional, academic, and relevant extracurricular experience 


Translated, if not in English 

You will need to upload copies of your transcript(s) in the SGS online application portal. 

    • We can make admission offers based on your uploaded transcripts, but must receive hard copies of your transcripts before you can register in the program  
    • You must have your academic institution(s) mail official hard copies of your transcript(s) to the TRP office as instructed by the application website before you can register 
    • If your transcript or degree is not in English, you must arrange to have the document translated by a certified translation service, embassy or consulate 

Reference letters

Must include at least one academic reference 

References must be submitted by referees via the online application system. 

    • Once your application fees are paid, you will need to register your referees and provide their institutional email address 
    • The online system will send your referees instructions for completing the reference 
    • Any non-academic referees should be able to speak to your capacity and performance 
    • Your referees cannot be family, friends (peers) or other applicants

International degree equivalencies

For degrees earned at non-Canadian institutions 
    • If you have been educated at a non-Canadian institution, your educational background will be assessed for equivalency with a University of Toronto degree. See more on the SGS website.
    • We encourage international students to apply early to ensure sufficient time for review and securing a study permit (student visa) 

English language proficiency test scores

For degrees from institutions where English is not the language of instruction 
    • If you received your previous degree from a university where English is NOT the language of instruction, you must complete a recognized English Language Proficiency Test (within the last two years before applying to the TRP)

  • International: May 13, 2022

Upload documents by:

  • Domestic: June 24, 2022
  • International: May 27, 2022
We will only review applications submitted through the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) online application portal. 
    • Register and create your profile on the SGS application portal
    • Select LMTTRRMHSC as your Degree Program of Study
    • Upload your supporting documents 

You may check the status of your application via the online application system. We will not assess your application until: 

    • You have paid the SGS application fee 
    • Your online application is fully completed and submitted 
    • We have received all required documents by the deadline 

Rolling admissions

We will be conducting interviews and sending offer letters on an ongoing basis as we receive applications. We therefore encourage you to apply early for these limited spots!  If spots are filled, you may be placed on a waitlist. 

Domestic applications close in:
