Sally Moy receives the sought-after USTL Award 2022

The University of Toronto Student Leadership Award continues U of T’s long-standing tradition of recognizing outstanding student leadership, service, and commitment to the university. During the award’s 25-year history, it celebrated the exemplary contributions of more than 4,000 students whose commitment and service had a lasting impact on their peers and the university.

This year, the Translational Research Program’s Sally Moy is on the recipient’s scroll for her exceptional leadership and passion to be the change she wants to see in the world. As a young, focused woman in science, Sally joined the translational research program to bridge gaps and bring innovations in healthcare to the people who need it, hoping that she can inspire the next generation of scientists.

Sally is a spearheader for many reasons, but her out-of-the-box approaches are what makes her stand apart. “When we think of patient-centered care, it’s important that patients are seen as essential partners in any clinical, scientific, or innovative initiative,” she said when asked about her thoughts on people-centric innovations in healthcare.

How did Sally win the prestigious University of Toronto Student Leadership Award? Here are a few of the extra-curricular that helped her get nominated and subsequently win:

  • Project Manager, Volunteer Scoping Review Team (TRP) – Leading a scoping review on patient perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare
  • Co-founder & Executive Producer, Impact Gap Podcast (TRP) – Creating a platform to highlight patient/ patient advocate perspectives in healthcare
  • Site Lead, COVID-19 Safety Influencers Program (TRP) – Led a high school volunteer program for students to share COVID-19 safety info on social media
  • Location Director, CLAMPS (LMP) – Planning and executing a collaborative student games night between CLAMPS and TRP Social Committee
  • Professional Development Associate, Graduate Management Consulting Association (UofT) – Creating professional development programs (GMCA: Business Fundamentals) for grad students

“I feel so honoured to be one of the recipients of the 2022 University of Toronto Student Leadership Award. As a master’s student in the Translational Research Program (TRP), we are taught that ecosystems matter and so I have devoted myself to making a positive impact both inside and outside of TRP by leading student initiatives centered around education, citizenship, and community,” Sally said on her leadership award.

We’d like to congratulate Sally on this wonderful achievement and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
