TR in Health

In health sciences these days, it seems that everyone is talking about ‘translation’; it seems to come in many flavours, and few seem to agree what the term actually means.

WHAT IS TRANSLATION?

To advance health care, knowledge must move between contexts towards mechanisms, techniques, and approaches that support the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.  Academic institutions and funding agencies around the world are committing increasing resources to projects that work towards tangible benefits.

Translation in the health sciences may involve developing novel tools, mechanisms, services, drugs, techniques, policies, and protocols that address the needs of people and populations.

WHAT IS TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH (TR)?

To advance health care, knowledge must move toward mechanisms, techniques, and approaches that support the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of disease. Translational Research (TR) investigates how to innovate more systematically and efficiently. TR develops methods of inquiry, best-practices, and frameworks to optimize the successful design, development, implementation, testing, and dissemination of innovation in healthcare.

The process of turning OBSERVATIONS in the laboratory, clinic, and community into interventions that IMPROVE THE HEALTH of individuals and the public — from diagnostics and therapeutics to medical procedures and behavioural changes.

TRANSLATORS

Translators translate research into tangible benefits for people. They advocate for public good, accelerate innovation, and engineer positive change.  Professional translational researchers, or translators, translate research into tangible benefits for people. They see big-picture pathways,  communicate knowledge to diverse audiences,  set policy,  influence behaviour, and implement effective new interventions

WHO IS A TRANSLATOR?

The healthcare field is undergoing a rapid evolution–a transformation of how things are done, by whom, and how people are rewarded. A new type of professional is emerging–an applied scientist.  Not always found conducting experiments in a lab, they use science. And they combine the science with expertise from a vast range of disciplines, such as business, design, law, and communication.

TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAM (TRP)

TRP teaches translators how to apply Translational Thinking™   to scientific knowledge to improve health and medicine. Students learn systematic strategies for framing, translating, and implementing knowledge and discoveries towards needs-driven innovations that positively impact human health.

TRANSLATIONAL THINKING

Our unique framework that provides a rigorous methodology for translating. Translational Thinking™ is a reflective, iterative, and person-centered approach that starts with people and ends with tangible  benefits tailor-made to suit their needs.

The Translational Thinking™ Framework focuses on people’s NEEDS by:

  • Engaging with people to identify issues
  • Defining a focused problem or research question based on verified needs
  • Ideating multiple approaches through participatory and co-design strategies
  • Prototyping and testing with stakeholder feedback for iterative improvement

WHY CHOOSE THE TRP?
