Brief Bio:

I completed an undergraduate degree in Biology while working in laboratory medicine and pathobiology research. I developed a wide range of laboratory skills in microbiology, antibiotic resistance research, oncology, fish embryology and biochemistry. Eventually, I found that I wanted to be directly involved in patient health so I completed a medical degree and trained in Family Medicine. In search of further opportunities, I moved to Toronto and became involved in several exciting projects in medical education and medical simulation. My most recent work has been with the Department of Surgery at UofT, the simulation labs at St Michael's and Mount Sinai, and with Sim One, a network for Ontario's medical simulation labs. I am interested in building on my previous work by developing 3D printed models and other resources for use in medical education and simulation.

Capstone Project:

Severe perineal tears are rare events, making it difficult for residents to receive adequate training.

Up to 65% of vaginal deliveries are complicated by some form of tear or episiotomy. Severe tears can lead to long-term complications; however, they are rare enough that residents have few opportunities to receive training from experienced obstetricians. Residents who receive simulation-based training have improved performance, but we do not currently have a model for 4th degree perineal tears.
