Brief Bio

Dr. Errett has worked as a cardiac surgeon for 32 years in England, Canada, and the United States. He established the Terrence Donnelly Vascular Biology Laboratory and is Chief of Cardiac Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital. With his friend and benefactors, he founded the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at U of T. In recognition of his remarkable contribution to the field, he received the Norman Bethune Award, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Wifred G. Bigelow Professorship by Cardiac Surgery, U of T, and more. As Professor of Global Surgery, he is now striving to improve the performance and capacity of surgery in low and middle income countries. Dr. Errett is a founding educator. He established a teaching unit at St. Michael’s Hospital. He then created the Terrence Donnelly Cardiac Resident’s Research Day, which provides a unique opportunity for all Canadian cardiac surgical residents to meet and exchange ideas. Over the last 15 years, Dr. Errett has helped form numerous cardiac training programs in multiple countries and has received honorary professorships at four universities.
