Brief Bio:

Dr. Levy has made an outstanding contribution to the study of liver disease. He is currently seeking a way to achieve immunological tolerance that could allow patients who have undergone solid organ transplant to discontinue their long-term immunosuppression therapy. He was an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 1988. He received the Canadian Liver Foundation Commemorative Medal for the Queen’s Jubilee, the Dr Richard Hunt Outstanding Service Award from the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation, the Dean’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Medical Science, and many other awards. In 2015, he was appointed to the Order of Ontario.

Dr. Levy is also a leading educator. He has trained over 60 MSc and PhD students. He is a professor in the Departments of Medicine, Immunology, and Surgery at U of T and an honorary professor at Tongji University in China. He co-founded and directed the Multi Organ Transplant Program at the University Health Network and the U of T Transplantation Institute.
