Newton Lestrange

The intersection of the scalpel and science is where Newton’s interests have found their focus.

His early work in neuroimmunology revealed neurological disease not as the product of any single process, but as the convergence of many. Shaped by serendipity, an unexpected encounter in neurosurgery drew him toward neuro-oncology, where the biology of disease meets the immediate realities of caring for patients with brain and skull base tumours.

Newton now works with Dr. Farshad Nassiri at University Health Network, where his interests centre on the care and study of patients with brain and skull base tumours. Here, questions are bounded by no single setting; they travel from bedside to bench and back, toward personalized therapies and stronger systems of care.

Underlying his path is a simple conviction: discovery rarely belongs to one person or one discipline. It takes many hands and minds abroad to move an idea toward meaningful change. Through the TRP, Newton hopes to contribute to that exchange, bringing tumour biology and patient care closer together while growing into someone who can one day carry that knowledge forward to others.
